Italian Bread Recipe
Ingredient
- 4 Cups AP Flour
- 1 Tbs Light Brown Sugar
- 1 1/3 Cups Warm Water, 110°F
- 1 1/2 Tsp Salt
- 1 1/2 Tsp Olive oil
- 1 1/2 Tsp Yeast
- 1 Egg Yolk
- 1 Tbs Water
- 2 Tbs Cornmeal
Steps
- Combine flour, sugar, salt and yeast in a bowl.
- Mix in water and olive oil.
- Flour a surface for kneading.
- Knead dough for 5 minutes.
- Grease bowl.
- Place dough in bowl.
- Allow dough to double in size, 1-2 hours.
- Punch down dough.
- Divide dough into two equal halves.
- Roll dough out to 1/2″ thickness.
- Roll up jelly-roll style into loaves.
- Sprinkle baking pan with cornmeal.
- Place loaves on baking pan.
- Allow loaves to double in size, 1-2 hours.
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Whisk egg yolk and water.
- Paint top and sides of loaves with egg wash.
- Bake at 375°F for 30-35 minutes.

I’m excited to see a recipe for an Italian Loaf. I tried my hand at Panne di Como. I’ll try this one and let your readers know how it turned out. I hope it’s a soft yet chewy loaf.
