About Me
Hi. I’m Barry Gilbert from Augusta, GA. I have been baking on and off since I was little. Almost every matriarch of my family welcomed me into the kitchen. I think they just wanted me to do the hard work, like cream the sugar & butter together. Just kidding.
I took the past few years off from baking, but have recently come back to one of the passions of my life. In early 2009, bread got me back into the swing of baking. I was all about eating a sandwich on some home made bread. From there, I moved to bagels, which took me 5 attempts to get a batch that was decent. I know, just about any bread is good with some blueberry preserves on it.
In September 2009, I started a twitter account called BarryBakes. The response went so well, that I decided to start this web site entirely devoted to my baking endeavors. I may stray off the topic of “baked goods” every now and then, but I will try to keep them in the realm of cooking.
Of course, baking doesn’t consume every second of my life. I am a computer programmer by day, currently seeking a challenging employment opportunity if you know of one. I run CompGuyAug.com, a computer blog, and two game sites: NonogramsOnline.com and URPuzzled.com. I also have a cat, but you won’t hear another mention of him here.
So, that is me. I’m just your typical 29 year old guy who like to write computer programs and come up with interesting things to bake. I look forward to hearing your comments.
One Response to “About Me”
Hey Barry! I made the brown sugar pound cake from a few days ago, but thought you should know that part of the recipe calls for baking soda, and part for baking powder. I just mixed 1/4tsp each and waved a magic wand of hope. Turned out just fine – but in case anyone else mentions it
